Over
recent years the approaches
used in dermal filling have
changed considerably. Most
patients I see want to have
a line that irritates them
minimised. My aim here is
to consider where the line
is coming from, and to ensure
the best outcome, my approach
focuses on treating the cause
of the line.
Nasolabial Folds Before
and After
Often
the lines or depressions people
complain of are caused by
facial volume loss in the
underlying tissues, whether
that is post menopausal bone
density reduction, muscle
loss, or subcutaneous fat
loss. Many of us are conscious
of the laxity of our facial
skin with age. If the underlying
structures of the skin are
revolumised with a dense dermal
filler, then the skin on top
sits higher and firmer, like
it once did. Sometimes all
that is required is to enhance
the underlying tissues with
a supportive filler. If there
are still finer lines visible
then a softer hyaluronic acid
filler might be ‘layered’
into the dermis to lift out
the finer and more superficial
creases. Think of it like
a table with a tablecloth
on top, if the table is firm
and taught the cloth can be
positioned over it smoothly.

Nasolabial Folds Before
and After
These
approaches, be it facial volumising
or finer dermal filling are
discussed at length with Cheryl
in the consultation. The aim
with facial contouring is
to recreate the naturally
oval facial shape of youth,
and replace the angular depressions
that can appear with age.
The face will have a restored
three dimensional appearance.
Dermal
fillers have applications
for facial depressions, lines
and contours in cheeks, temples,
jowls, naso-labial folds,
smokers lines around the mouth,
deep frown lines, marionette
lines, hands, chins.
Nasolabial Folds Before
and After
Some
patients can lose volume in
their lips and vermillion
border, and soft dermal fillers
are used in these areas to
replace natural plumpness
to the lip contours. This
enhancement results in a lovely
definition to the lip border.
Having lips volumised can
also improve the hydration
of the lip surface, as hyaluronic
acid is a potent moisturising
agent.
Perioral Wrinkles Before
and After
What
to expect?
Pre
and post photographs will
be taken, with your consent.
Dermal
fillers are gel based injectables.
Most of them are mixed with
a lidocaine based local anaesthetic
prior to insertion into the
tissue, to help reduce sensation.
In addition for her clients
comfort Cheryl will apply
a local anaesthetic cream
to the treatment areas. This
is applied approx 30 mins
prior to commencing treatment.
Some patients prefer to have
a dental block injection into
the gums for more sensitive
lip treatments making the
treatment entirely painless.
This is included with the
treatment.
There
are some post procedural recovery
points to note. The areas
treated will be red, there
can be some temporary swelling,
and there is a risk of minor
bruising. It might be necessary
to massage the treatment areas
at home, and if so Cheryl
will show you the technique
during the procedure. Mineral
makeup will be applied by
Cheryl before you leave the
clinic, if you so wish.
Results
with dermal fillers are instant,
and depending on the type
of filler selected can last
for periods from 6 months
extending up to 18 months.
Lifestyle factors such as
smoking, hydration levels,
nutrition, excessive exercise,
mechanical facial treatments
and expression impact greatly
upon how long dermal fillers
last.
